Sandra Itkoff and John Gillespie, Entrepreneurs in Residence with the UCLA Office of Intellectual Property, will conduct a series of four lectures for faculty, staff and students on how to create a successful startup business. Participants will become familiar with terminology used by entrepreneurs, lawyers and investors when forming and financing a new company, and will be better equipped to assess the feasibility of a business concept and communicate that concept. Topics to be covered include market definition, business plan development, legal organization, financial modeling, fundraising/investor presentations, marketing strategy, management team recruiting, corporate governance, managing conflicts of interest and the path to liquidity. Lectures will include case studies (some with quest speakers) and conclude with an opportunity for participants to ask questions.
