ApplyMap Intern Opportunities

ApplyMap is an early stage startup building a SaaS platform to faciltiate communication and decisionmaking during the college admissions process. ApplyMap leaps ahead of existing tools by streamlining the info-gathering process, and employing advanced statistical analyses to providing actionable recommendations instead of simply regurgitating data. We are currently a team of 4 (2 founders and 2 engineers), and are seeking interns for the following positions:

Design intern — this person will work primarily on day-to-day design tasks ranging from marketing brochures, to pitch presentations, and graphical elements on our various public facing websites. They may also have the opportunity to collaborate with our lead designer, who was a senior designer for Netflix, and currently works in the mobile gaming industry.

Must have…
– background in graphical design demonstrated through academic or professional work
– portfolio of at least 2-3 major projects

Web developer intern — the web developer intern will improve UX on our public facing websites by implementing new and improving existing UI, streamlining code, and incorporating feedback from users. They will work with the CTO and designer(s) to make sure that the gap between functionality and aethetics is properly bridged.

Must have…
– at least a year of programming experience (formal or otherwise) in any language. Web languages (PHP, HTML, SQL, CSS, JS) highly preferred but not mandatory.
– some experience with Photoshop and Illustrator

Would like to have…
– experience with jQuery, backbone.js, Mongo, Laravel
– portfolio of prior web development work

Marketing/business development intern — this person will work closely with the CEO to execute on our marketing strategy and cultivate relationships with our clients. Primary responsibilities will include developing marketing materials, accompanying the CEO to client meetings, and managing our social media presence.

Must have…
– excellent writing skills – not the least of which is good grammar – and the ability to distill technical details into layperson-friendly prose
– good phone and email communication skills
– professional demeanor and outgoing personality

Would like to have…
– a flexible work schedule to facilitate meeting schedules and client followup
– some coursework in business or marketing

All positions may be paid or unpaid depending on the candidate’s level of experience. Paid positions will generally be paid on an hourly basis. For the designer position, we may also negotiate on a per-project basis.
